Junior Achievement of Northwest Florida, Inc.

Pensacola, Florida

JA Core Purpose: To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

JA Works

Independent studies show that Junior Achievement works. Students that participate in JA programs for five consecutive years demonstrate significantly more critical thinking and job interviewing skills. Even one exposure to a JA program gives a student a greater comprehension of economics and business. JA students score higher on objective-referenced tests, are more likely to attend college and have a more positive self-concept and higher self-esteem.

Results

Junior Achievement reached 2,760 students in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Bay Counties in the 2006-07 school year. More than 100 volunteers taught students in 120 classes in elementary, middle and high school grade levels. These results are down from past years, primarily due to tightened financial resources. As the community continues to recover from the impact of the 2004 storms, our primary goal is to build support back to previous levels and to extend the reach of JA’s programs to past levels and beyond. In 2008, we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary and the impact we have made with over 109,000 young people in Northwest Florida

Funding

In the 2006/07 year, Junior Achievement of Northwest Florida received $186,882 in funding for its Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties Operations. Of this, 86% came from the community through contributions, class sponsorships and special events. The Florida Department of Education and Escambia County gave $27,158 for 2006/2007, which may or may not be available next year. JA does not receive United Way funding and is fully dependent on businesses, organizations and individuals who believe in our mission to fund the organization.
